Winter League 2010 - Announcement #1

WODS has good, bad and more good news about winter league.

The good news is that WODS winter league will be back again in 2010.  The bad news is that we lost our previous timeslot at ComDev.  The final piece of news (hopefully good) is that our new timeslot will be Friday's from 6:30pm until 9:30pm.

Unfortunately, we don't know field costs at this point but as soon as those are known, I will let you know how much team fees will be.  As for timeslots, it will depend on the number of teams interested in playing.  If we have a lot of teams, we will have three timeslots of one hour.  If fewer teams register, we will have 1.5 hour timeslots.  The price will be affected by the length of the game so I will be sure to send updates accordingly.

Registration will be by team captains.  Individual players looking for a team are encouraged to use the 'Looking for players or teams?' forum.

I will provide you with additional information as it becomes available.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (laura@wods.ca).  I know that this is early to send out winter league details (since fall league just started).  But due to the change of the day of the week, I wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible.

We hope that the evening and timeslot will promote the social creatures in everyone - though I don't know what Ethel's has on special that night.  :-)

Finally, if captains have a significant preference for the game's duration, please feel free to email me with your opinion.

Similar to previous years, this league hopes to cater to the advanced/intermediate teams.

Update I (Sept. 15, 2009)

The league will start January 15th, it will be 15 weeks long.

No games April 2nd (Good Friday).

Therefore, the last night of winter league will be April 30th which will allow for a 2-3 week break before the start of summer league.

winter league

HEy i am interested in gettting a team going for this winter, however we have not ever had a team, and not exactly sure how to register( or if there is even room).  I look forward to hearing from anyone that can assit me in getting our team registered, and/or any information about the winter league (ie , start dates, registraion deadlines, amount of players ect...)

Level of Play

I would like to enter a team but want to make sure its just intermediate that we end up playing.  Will the league be divided into only 2 levels or 3?

Response to Ryan Graham's post (winter league)

Hi Ryan,

Registration will likely open in the month of November so we can sort out the number of teams that need to be accomodated.  Captains will register using a form that will be posted to the website.  The start date is January 8th or 15th.  The registration deadline is to be determined but it will likely be early December so that everyone can get themselves organized.  The amount of players is determined by the captain.  It depends on how much playing time everyone wants and also how hard everyone wants to be able to run.  The format will be 5 on 5 (3 guys, 2 girls).

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Response to Christa Welsh's post (Level of Play)

Hi Christa,

It all depends on how many teams register.  I doubt that the league will formally be divided because then we need to worry about getting an even number of teams for each 'level'.  The schedule will likely be some sort of 'ladder' - details of the ladder system can be found here (http://www.wods.ca/node/160).  I can't promise anything but I would like to note that we try to make the games fun for everyone by having teams with similar skill levels play each other.
