Newbie Question on Throwing Fouls

Ok, so this may be a newbie question, but the only way to learn is to go through these things, right?

I was going for a flick and about a quarter of the way through the throwing motion with the disc firmly in my hand when the disc was hit by the marker.  Is that a foul?  Why or why not?

Before today, I would have guessed not because the marker hit the disc and not me (which is why I didn't ask for a foul at the time), but talking with some of my teammates afterwards, we couldn't come up with a concensus on what that should be.  We played on and it didn't affect the game much, so everything seems to be "in spirit" (I'm still trying to figure out exactly what that is), but I'd like to understand how this is supposed to work in order to better understand the game as a whole.

Thanks!

throwing fouls

If the disc is in your hand it's considered part of your body. If the marker makes contact with the disc, it's a foul on the marker. If the marker is stationary and YOU hit THEM with the disc, its a foul on you. Rule of thumb: it's more likely the marker's foul if it contacts their arms or legs as those are usually not stationary; it's more likely your foul if it contacts their head or torso.

Hope that helps.

Andy

That's a lot more clear.

That's a lot more clear.  Thanks Andy!
