ODSA Recognizes Steve Chris for "Outstanding Achievement"

The Ontario Disc Sports Association (ODSA) held its Annual General Meeting and a special leadership conference in Toronto over the September 26-28 weekend. Many great issues were dealt with regarding the past, present and future of disc sports in Ontario.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the ODSA recognized six individuals from the 25 disc sports organizations throughout Ontario for their special contributions to their organizations and to the promotion of disc sports in general. WODS is pleased to announce that our Executive Director, Steve Chris, was recognized for his "Outstanding Achievement" for his activities with WODS.

Steve has been a WODS member since its inception in 2003. He has been a board member for the past three years, acting as Executive Director for the past two years. In that time, Steve has spearheaded many of the great new developments that WODS members have seen. ODSA Executive Director Christopher Lowcock made special note of Steve's many accomplishments and contributions, including:

  • Steve was the driving force behind the conception and implementation of this new website. Many WODS members and directors contributed to the site, but no one contributed more time and energy than Steve. This website has radically improved WODS' ability to communicate with its members and to administer its leagues and activities.
  • It was Steve who first approached the City of Kitchener with regard to the possibility of developing the new ultimate fields at Kiwanis Park. He and several other board members committed a great deal of time and energy to preparing a detailed proposal for the City. Steve has since led the development of the project from WODS' end, helping to coordinate and manage the timing of the work on the fields, and working closely with representatives from the City of Kitchener at all levels to make sure the fields are developed as well as possible. As we move into the fall season, Steve continues to work with the City as it performs further work to address turf quality issues in preparation for next summer. This new project should provide huge returns for all WODS members well into the future.
  • Steve is responsible for negotiating with the Cambridge Youth Soccer organization to secure space and reasonable time slots at the new ComDev Dome indoor turf field for our indoor winter ultimate leagues. Prior to 2008, WODS ran these leagues in gymnasiums throughout Waterloo Region due to the lack of affordable turf locations and time slots.
  • Steve takes a personal interest in all WODS events, sacrificing his personal time to help make sure that they serve the membership in the best way possible. His leadership, guidance and sportsmanship from the executive level right on down to his on-field play have helped make WODS a leading influence in the Ontario disc sports landscape.

Congratulations and thanks to Steve from the entire WODS membership.
