To all WODS Members,
We hosted our Captain's Meeting last night and I believe we are gearing up for an incredible season of Ultimate. I was out to Kiwanis Park today and can confirm that 3 of our 5 available fields have been lined. It is expected that the remaining 2 fields will be lined on Tuesday in anticipation of our start of season. If you have never seen a regulation size Ultimate field, rest assured it is huge ;-)
Etiquette:
As I am sure you are aware, having access to dedicated fields is a huge accomplishment for WODS and offers some security for future growth. These are our fields to maintain or, unfortunately, lose. With that in mind:
- Drive very slowly in Kiwanis Park and in the Kiwanis community that we pass through on our way to the fields.
- Park only in the designated parking areas.
- We have limited parking facilites at the fields so we strongly encourage everyone to carpool.
- Be respectful and mindful of the local residents. Many will not understand our sport so take the time to introduce them and emphasize the foundation of our sport - 'Spirit of the Game'.
- Clean up after yourself, your team, and anyone else. Any garbage left on the fields is unsightly and will reflect negatively on WODS. Garbage cans will be available in the parking lot. If they are full, please take your garbage with you (i.e. don't pile it around the garbage cans).
- No alcohol is permitted at the fields.
- While we encourage you to have a good time, unnecessary yelling and cursing is not acceptable.
Field Layouts:
Unfortunately, the wet and cold spring was not ideal for growing new grass from seed. At this time, 5 of the 6 fields are available for use. You can see the field layout at http://www.wods.ca/node/273#kiwanis.
- Field 3 will not be in use for the start of the season due to the remediation of the old 'landing strip'.
- Additionally, a portion of Field 4 touches upon an area that is being remediated. Since Field 4 is needed for Wednesday Tier 2 play, we recommend that teams 'push' both sidelines about 5 paces closer to the 'berm' (this will all make sense when you see the field). By pushing the sidelines, the area being remediated will be taken out of play and will offer a safer playing surface. However, this means that the painted sidelines will not be applicable for the first couple of weeks but the endzone lines at the front and back will extend across most of the field.
Your Board of Directors is excited about this new beginning for WODS and we encourage you to provide feedback and suggestions on how we can continue to improve the level of service we are delivering to our Members.
Steve Chris
WODS Executive Director
