Liquid and Quicksand Tryouts

Liquid and Quicksand are back!

Attention all competitive WODS players! Here's the important information about official tryouts for Liquid and Quicksand, Waterloo's competitive Ultimate touring teams.

Tryouts will take place over the following dates - unless noted, dates are for both Quicksand and Liquid (location and time info below):

• April 23 (Mon)
• April 26 (Thu)
• May 1 (Tue) - LIQUID ONLY
• May 3 (Thu)
• May 5-6 - LIQUID ONLY - Soggy Bottom Bowl (Guelph)
• May 8 (Tue) - LIQUID ONLY
• May 10 (Thu)
• May 12-13 - Toronto Ultimate Festival (TUF)

WHEN: 6:00 pm - be prepared to START at 6:00 pm ( i.e. be warmed up already).

PLEASE NOTE: The location may change. If you have contacted either Justin or Scott we will alert you if the location changes; please be aware.

Cuts will be made throughout the tryout period. Final cuts for both Liquid and Quicksand will be made following TUF.

Attendance at practices is important to evaluate everyone. If you are not able to attend one or more of the tryout practices, please contact Justin or Scott as appropriate.

Selections will be based on skill, athleticism, work ethic and positive attitude. Players who have previously played on Liquid or Quicksand will not be given preferential treatment.

Informal practices to throw and get your grass legs back will be held at Waterloo Park Cricket Pitch (Map above) as follows (these are NOT tryout practices):

• Sat, Apr 14 - 1pm
• Mon, Apr 16 - 6pm
• Thu, Apr 19 - 6pm
• Sat, Apr 21 - 1pm

Please bring both cleats and running shoes.  We may have to play in running shoes based on field conditions.

Quicksand has its new Captain!

Quicksand is a development touring team with strong spirit. While the principal focus is spirited play and improvement of individual and team skills, we aim to be competetive. The team is looking to build on a strong year which saw them finish strong in the B division of tournaments (and middle of the pack overall). This year Quicksand is being captained by Scott Anderson (mista 'DOT' anderson 'AT' gmail 'DOT' com).

The roster for Quicksand will be selected by Scott Anderson with advice from experienced competitive players. Tryouts will follow the same format as that of Liquid.

Selections will be based on skill, athleticism, work ethic and positive attitude. Players who have previously played on Quicksand or Liquid will not be given preferential treatment. Quicksand will likely have a roster of 7-9 women and 10-12 men (but that may be altered).

The summer schedule includes the following tournaments:

• TUF (Toronto) - May 12-13
• May Day (Waterloo) - May 26 
• Gender Blender (Fergus) - June 1-3 
• Northern Flights (North Bay) - June 23-24
• Regionals (Ottawa) - July 7-8 [OR] Comedy of Errors (Montreal) - July 14-15
• Mixed Up (Ottawa) - TBA (early August)
• London Calling (London) - August 18-19

Team members will be expected to attend one weekly practice (likely on Thursdays).
